Our story
It started with a question in 2021.
A group of high school students at Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School in Indianapolis kept running into the same uncomfortable fact: a few miles from our classrooms, elementary students — most of them students of color — were attending schools with a fraction of the resources we took for granted. Not because anyone cared less, but because the system was built that way long before any of us were born.
We couldn't change the system from a high school hallway. So we did the thing we could do: we organized, got trained, and started showing up — every week — at under-resourced elementary schools across Indianapolis, to tutor, mentor, and learn alongside the kids there.
In 2021 that group became Learn Like Me, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Today we're a student body of more than 200 members, led entirely by students, still asking the same question — and still answering it one Wednesday at a time.
